Job Description

The SA operates as a single point of contact or as part of a team (on large deals with multiple SAs) accountable to the SA SPOC from pre-sales to deal closure or transition to service operations. The SA will work closely with the Business Development team and the delivery and engineering teams in developing solutions to difficult challenges BAE Systems' customers have, challenges that only a very small number of organizations understand and even fewer that have the solutions for.

Key Responsibilities

Single Point of Contact Accountabilities

  • Managing all customer, intermediary and functional owner relationships for the designated solution
  • Driving the necessary sign-off of the All-Source Intelligence solution with proper input from the Business Development Director on customer objective(s), domain, risk assessment, budget and preferences
  • Work closely and complement other Solutions Architects & Support team, and act as the SME required during the pre-sales process and the communication/ collaboration with the engineering and system integration organization
  • Directing and coordinating with Legal & Commercial and Corporate in areas specific to the solution to ensure use of standards and compliance with export control and internal governance
  • Collaborating with the Business Development team to provide input to Terms and Conditions and in some cases accountable for specific Outsourcing contractual terms and conditions
  • Identifying leadership contacts for service transition and operations (e.g. implementation/support, mobilization lead) and ensuring appropriate solution plan transition for closed deals
  • Interfacing with the delivery organization/s to ensure effective transition, shape solutions and related services (if any), collaborate on clear solution assumptions, determine appropriate solution delivery locations and related cost to deliver
Solution Planning and Deal Shaping for Qualified Deals
  • Understand and translate customer requirements into a standard solution offering deal approach leveraging standard process methods, deliverables and the right collection of BAE Systems offerings
  • Preparing the solution spend estimate, schedule, work plan, resource/sourcing plan
  • Understand and clearly define the input required to create cost estimates; preparing the cost model estimates working with Business Development, Solution Architects & Management (if applicable) and Support to deliver the defined scope of products, tools and services against the agreed customer solution
  • Collaborating as a key member of the Business Development team to represent the solution offering to customers and other internal BAE Systems groups
  • Aligning solution architecture (including statement of work, schedules and other contractual documents) with final terms and conditions
Essential Requirements

  • Strong customer engagement experience including excellent communication skills. Preference would be given to candidate who has performed in a similar role with government/defense/intelligence agencies customers
  • Excellent self-management and multitasking skills and can demonstrate ability to manage multiple customer engagements at varying phases of the lifecycle, self-starter and independent
  • Keen ability to decompose high-level customer requirements/problem statement into practical solutions (the Whats and Hows) e.g. able to articulate the ConOps including people, processes and technology
Preferable Requirements

  • All-Source-INT including GEOINT, SIGINT, etc.
  • Experience in translating 'solution' into logical engineering activities
  • Fundamental understanding of requirements capture, engineering planning and solution design with use of various tooling to facilitate artefact production
  • Prior experience in systems integration & systems/software engineering
  • Degree/Masters holder from a reputable or well recognized institute / university
Soft Skill Requirements

Leadership: Influencing others to accomplish tasks and following your guidance. Must be able to lead business and technology programs, projects, workshops and initiatives

Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills: A solution architect is a techie and a communicator in one. The role is about understanding needs, providing advice, managing risks and delivering the right technology results

Presentation and Public Speaking Skills: The SA is expected to give presentations on a fairly regular basis, therefore should be comfortable speaking to large audiences, top executives, business and technical leaders across various sectors and industries.

Innovation and Creativity: Should possess an innovative and creative mind-set in order to provide standardized solutions for problems.

Art of Influencing: Should possess the ability to inspire others and bridge the gap between business and IT.

Managing Time and pressure: Should have a proactive mind-set and approach, along with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.

Human relations: Understand the "people" aspects or human factors and dynamics. This includes things like pragmatism, understanding team dynamics and personal dynamics

Overall, this is an extremely challenging and interesting new position created for someone possessing at least a decade of similar experience in the solution architecture space and willing to embark on a journey to write a new chapter on a blank board!
